The Magic of Memorabilia Shopping

Despite whatever controversy JK Rowling is in right now, I can’t deny that her Harry Potter books defined my childhood. And the movies made it even more amazing! As a self-confessed Potterhead, I feel no shame in loving both the book and movie franchises. Even to the point of collecting memorabilia.

Just recently, I bought an autographed poster of “Harry Potter and The Sorcerer’s Stone” from a website called HollywoodMemorabilia.com. I’ve never been that much of a poster collector myself but I know a few people who are. They recommended this site a lot cause they swear it has authentic autographed memorabilia. I, for one, was sort of cynical at first but since it was a Harry Potter poster, I didn’t mind splurging a bit. And with fast and free shipping, nothing can go wrong, right?

My only concern with their poster was that it was only signed by Daniel Redcliffe. Now, don’t get me wrong, I’m a huge fan of the guy and he was amazing as my favorite bespectacled wizard hero but I was more of a Hermione-stan myself. I would have loved it if it had Emma  Watson’s autograph too but hey, at least someone still signed this, right? Anyway, I placed my order and hoped for the best!

Lucky for me, I got the poster in about a week. That was the fastest I’ve had my package shipped to me from shopping online. And it was FedEx who delivered it to my door so I was sure that nothing happened to my poster when I opened it. Looking at it in person, I was at least sure that it was authentic. It has a faded quality to it, and since the movie premiered almost two decades ago, I wasn’t surprised. It was right then and there that I knew this wasn’t a reprint.

Now, about the autograph. I gotta say, to this day, I’m still not 100% it’s the real deal. Sure, the company verified it and put on this ‘Authenticity Guarantee’ hologram or whatever on it, but I don’t know. I’m still not convinced all the way. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying they’re selling forgeries or anything like that. But when I compared it to all the other signed pieces from my Harry Potter memorabilia collection, some didn’t match up. I get that it’s impossible all autographs will look exactly the same, but still. I can’t help but leave just a tiny doubt in my mind.

Either way, I’m happy with my purchase! Even though it cost me almost a thousand bucks, for an intense Potterhead such as myself, it was money well-spent! For all your memorabilia collectors out there, I’d recommend buying from HollywoodMemorabilia.com. Just make sure you’re willing to spend a lot of money!
